Devotion is critically-acclaimed film that tells the true story of two of the Navy’s most-decorated aviators. Set against the backdrop of the Korean war, the story follows the careers of Ensign Jesse Brown and Lt. Tom Hudner as they take on some of the most dangerous missions of the war.
This film hit theaters worldwide in November 2022, but it’s actually available to stream free on Netflix in select countries.
A wider Netflix release is anticipated in Spring/Summer 2023, but you can stream Devotion right now in these 10 countries:
- Australia
- Germany
- Hong Kong
- Japan
- Malaysia
- Philippines
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Thailand
- Turkey
You can stream from anywhere: Even if you don’t live in one of these countries, you can still stream Devotion on Netflix by using a VPN to change your virtual location. We recommend Surfshark as the #1 option.
Is Devotion (2022) available on Netflix?
Answer: Yes, Devotion is available on Netflix in 10 countries: Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Korea, Thailand and Turkey.
Currently it’s not available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Brazil or any other regions. It will likely be available in additional regions later in 2023.
How to watch Devotion from other countries?
Netflix has a different library shows in each of its 180+ countries, but your subscription is actually global. By switching your real (or virtual) location, you can access Netflix libraries from other regions around the world.
The best way to do this is with a streaming-optimized VPN that can unlock other Netflix regions besides your own.
VPNs work best with Netflix when used on a computer, mobile device or compatible streaming stick (like a Firestick). If you want to use a VPN with your SmartTV, or Roku, you may be better off with SmartDNS instead.
Fortunately, all of the top VPNs recommended in this article include SmartDNS service with your subscription.
How to Watch Devotion on Netflix with a VPN
The steps to unblock and watch Devotion on Netflix are actually quite simple. I’ve personally tested it myself to confirm that I could stream devotion with both Surfshark and Cyberghost VPNs. It should also work with the other featured VPNs in this guide.
How to stream Devotion free on Netflix:
- Subscribe to a Netflix-ready VPN. I recommend Surfshark
- Install the VPN on your Device(s)
- Connect to a VPN server where Devotion is streaming
- Open the Netflix App (or browser) and watch Devotion
1. Get a VPN that works with Netflix
Netflix attempts to detect VPN traffic, but a few streaming-optimized VPNs are able to reliably unblock Netflix in specific regions. Of these, Surfshark is one of the easiest to use, and has 100+ server locations.
2. Install the VPN on your Device
If you’re streaming on a device that can run VPN apps directly, setup is easy. Just grab the official app directly from your VPNs website, or the app store for your OS (i.e. iOS and Google Play store).
Most VPNs have their own custom app that will run on all popular operating systems like: Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android and often FireTV/Firestick devices.
If you’re using an unsupported device (like AppleTV or Roku) check out our manual configuration guides below:
3. Connect to a VPN Server
Choose a VPN server location in one of the countries where Devotion is currently streaming. Germany, Australia, and Korea are all good options, especially if you’re using one of our recommended VPNs which can access Netflix reliably in all three countries.
If your VPN doesn’t automatically unblock streaming sites for you on all servers, make sure you’ve chosen the appropriate streaming-optimized server location. If you’re not sure which server to use, ask the tech support team for an updated list.
I’ll use Germany as my server choice since it’s closest to me. Closer servers typically result in faster speeds.
4. Stream Devotion on Netflix
Once you’re connected to the correct server, you’re ready to open Netflix and start streaming.
In my experience, accessing other Netflix libraries is more reliable when using the Netflix app, especially on desktop, rather than the browser player. That’s because Netflix stores cookies and cached data in the browser that can give away your actual location.
Once you’re signed into the app/browser you should see different library than you would in your home region, and Devotion should be available to stream. If you’re having trouble connecting or get the dreaded Netflix Proxy Error, see the troubleshooting section.
Troubleshooting
If you’re having trouble streaming Devotion, here are some troubleshooting tips to help you diagnose and correct the issue.
Most often, issues fall under one of the following categories:
- VPN/Proxy Error
- Incorrect Region
- Can’t login to Netflix
Netflix Proxy Error
If Netflix detects that you’re using a VPN, you’ll get the dreaded Netflix Proxy Error instead of the movie when you click the play button.
Don’t worry, Netflix doesn’t ban VPN users. If they detect a VPN you’ll be limited to titles that are available in all regions.
Easy Fix
Just close Netflix, reconnected to a different VPN server and try again.
Note: Not all VPNs are Netflix-compatible. Make sure you’re using a VPN that works with Netflix, such as the two featured in this guide.
Other Troubleshooting steps:
- Disable location sharing if you allow Netflix/Apps to access your location on your mobile device, computer, or browser
- Clear your browser cache and cookies (if streaming from the browser)
- Clear your app cache (if streaming on mobile)
Incorrect Region
If you can access Netflix and stream movies, but can’t find Devotion in the Netflix library, then you may be connected to an unsupported region.
Surfshark works reliably with around 10 different Netflix regions, even though they have servers in 100 different countries, each with their own Netflix library.
Currently, Germany, Australia and Japan are the best server locations to watch Devotion using a VPN.
Can’t Login to Netflix
If Netflix is rejecting your login attempts when you’re connected to the VPN, don’t sweat. It’s a security measure designed to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
Here’s how to fix it:
- Close Netflix
- Disconnect from the VPN
- Open Netflix and sign-in (choose the option to ‘stay logged in’ if applicable
- Close Netflix
- Connect to the VPN
- Open Netflix. You should now be logged in already and won’t need to sign in again.
